Aid for unmarried women over 50 years

FOR A LIFE OF DIGNITY: Chief Minister M.Karunanidhi distributing financial assistance to unmarried women aged over 50 years, at the Secretariat in Chennai on Thursday.
CHENNAI: Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Thursday distributed financial assistance of Rs.400 each to 15 unmarried women aged over 50 years, marking the launch of a scheme to help such women lead a life of dignity.
At the last conference of District Collectors, Mr. Karunanidhi had announced that women over 50, who were unmarried or had been abandoned by their children, or were destitutes or widows, would be given Rs.400 every month provided they were not in a position to work.

A government order for this was issued on July 1.
Following this, a massive exercise was taken up in districts to enumerate such women so that they could be given the government assistance.
So far, 9,100 such women have been identified.
