VISAKHAPATNAM: The verdant valleys of Araku and the azure sea of Vizag are drawing tourists in hordes year after year. This time for the peak season in October, 75 per cent bookings are already over, according to Divisional Manager of Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation (APTDC), P. Jeevan Prasad. To showcase the State’s rich tourist locations, APTDC participated in the Travel and Tourism Exposition that was held in Kolkata. The fair was organised by Bengali Channel ‘Chalo Jai’. As many as 64 stalls were put up by various State Tourism Departments, tour operators and travel agents during the expo. More than 25,000 people visited the three-day fair. “Our focus was on tourists spots in AP in general and Vizag in particular and the response was very encouraging,” he said. Tourism fairAPTDC will also be participating in the three-day 63rd edition of the Tourism and Travel Fair (TTF) starting from August 2 in Kolkata. The fair that is being conducted by Fairfest Media Ltd. will provide an opportunity to make travel plans, gather information on various national and international destinations, cruise lines, hotels, tour operators and travel airlines. APTDC will put up a big stall and have a 14 feet replica of the Charminar as its model. The stall will be surrounded by display boards, photos, and pullouts promoting the culture and tradition of Andhra Pradesh. Places like Papikonda, Golconda, Thotlakonda and Tirupati will be highlighted. “We are starting the December bookings during the TTF. With Darjeeling affected by the recent incidence of violence and in the wake of the flood situations in Orissa, we are expecting a big flow of tourists to Araku and the neighbouring places this time,” he added.
