Manmohan Singh NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday discussed with the Leader of Opposition L.K. Advani internal security and the ongoing agitation and violence in Jammu. Authoritative sources said the Prime Minister had asked Mr. Advani to come for a discussion on national problems as part of his plan to hold talks with important political leaders. Mr. Advani was accompanied by BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley, while Defence Minister A.K. Antony and Home Minister Shivraj Patil were also present at the meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence here. The security scenario, in the wake of the serial blasts in Bangalore and Ahmedabad in quick succession and the discovery of unexploded bombs in Surat, figured at the meeting. BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar later said the party leaders were given a detailed briefing on the internal security situation. On the Jammu agitation, Mr. Advani told the Prime Minister that the Jammu and Kashmir government’s action in leasing out land to the Amarnath Shrine Board and then revoking its own decision was wrong. Land must be leased out to the board, Mr. Advani said. The BJP said the “government has neglected the agitation in Jammu for the last one month.” Official sources told The Hindu that the Prime Minister would discuss these issues with a number of other leaders in the next few days and weeks.
