Karat, Ajit Singh call on Deve Gowda

NEW DELHI: Communist Party of India (Marxist) general secretary Prakash Karat and Rashtriya Lok Dal president Ajit Singh called on Janata Dal (Secular) leader and the former Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda, here on Thursday and are understood have discussed the current political situation.

Mr. Karat and Mr. Singh were with Mr. Gowda for one hour each. Mr. Singh met Mr. Gowda first and Mr. Karat followed him.

In an informal chat with reporters after the meeting, Mr. Gowda said the discussions centred on the campaigns to be launched against the government.

Visits Surjeet

Mr. Gowda later called on veteran CPI(M) leader Harkishan Singh Surjeet, who is undergoing treatment in a hospital at Noida, on the outskirts of the city.

The RLD Chief also later had a separate meeting with Mr. Karat at the CPI(M) party headquarters, AKG Bhavan.
