Olympians to be honoured

CHENNAI: The Hindustan Sports Foundation, in association with Hindustan University and Hotel Green Park, is organising an Olympic quiz programme on August 1 at the hotel premises. Dr. Sumant Raman will anchor the quiz.

The main objective of organising this event is to promote the Olympic movement, and the occasion is also being used to honour former Olympians.

According to Jayasankar Menon, chief advisor of HSF, it has been decided on public demand, especially educational institutions to keep entries open till 3.30 p.m. on the day of the quiz.

As already announced each team will consist of two members and there is no age restriction.

Olympians V. Baskaran, Govinda, Muneer Sait, V.J. Philips, Mohd. Riaz (all hockey) Karunakaran, Chandrasekaran (both weightlifting), Sebastian Xavier (swimming), Devarajan (boxing), S. Raman (table tennis), Jayalakshmi (athletics) will be honoured at the end of the programme.

Krishna Kumar, the general manager of the hotel, informed that the hotel had earlier associated itself with a quiz programme during World Cup football in 2006.
