P.C. Thomas to start new forum
Staff Reporter
KOTTAYAM: Kerala Congress (Joseph) rebel leader P.C. Thomas will launch yet another outfit, the P.T. Chacko Cultural Forum.
Speaking at a meeting organised by the district unit of the party to observe the 44th death anniversary of P.T. Chacko, Mr. Thomas said that the forum would be apolitical in nature.
The rebel leader denied that he had demanded party positions for himself and his followers during the talks with the party chairman on Thursday. Reports to the contrary were baseless, he said.
Meanwhile, for the first time the rival Kerala Congress (Mani) joined issue with the allegations and counter-allegations going on within the KC (J).
Allegations
Party leader Joseph M. Puthussery took exception to Mr. Thomas’ allegations that outside forces were behind the current confusions within the KC (J). He also alleged that Mr. Thomas had explored the scope in the opposite group, referring to the United Democratic Front (UDF), even as he made declarations to the effect that he would stand by the Left Democratic Front (LDF). “He became a firm LDF man only after he knew there was no chance for him in the UDF,” Mr. Puthussery said.
He accused Mr. Thomas of extending false promises to the farming community which he would not be able to fulfill as the demands were unrealistic.
