Drop ‘tainted’ Minister from Cabinet, demands CPI(M)

Up in arms: CPI(M) workers staging a dharna in Gulbarga on Friday.

GULBARGA: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Friday demanded that 10 Ministers facing criminal charges be dropped from the B.S. Yeddyurappa Ministry immediately.

CPI (M) workers, led by district secretary of the party Bhimshetty Yempalli, took out a procession here and staged a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office demanding that the Ministers be dropped from the Cabinet.

Later, they presented a memorandum, addressed to Governor Rameshwar Thakur, to the district authorities. They have urged the Governor to direct the Chief Minister to drop the “tainted” Ministers from the Cabinet. The memorandum said that charge sheets had been filed against eight of the 10 Ministers and first information reports (FIR) pertaining to cases in which the other Ministers were allegedly involved had been filed.

Questioning the claims of the Government that the State Budget was pro farmer, the workers said the budget did not have any proposal for increasing agricultural production or increasing the income of farmers.

The memorandum pointed out that the BJP had not yet fulfilled its pre-election promise of providing rice at Rs. 2 a kg to poor people.

The workers demanded that the Government relax rules for issuing ration cards for families below poverty line (BLP .
