Panchayati Raj Chamber has demanded action against DM&HO VIZIANAGARAM: District Panchayati Raj Chamber has taken a serious view on the remarks of Deputy District Medical and Health Officer Visveswara Rao at the standing committee meeting of the Zilla Parishad on Thursday that sarpanches had been swindling sanitation grants with the help of ANMs. At a press conference here on Friday, chamber chairman Mamidi Appala Naidu demanded an apology or suspension of the doctor immediately as he had insulted all sarpanches. He said the chamber would stage protest demonstrations at the RDO Office in Parvathipuram on August 16 and at the Collector’s Office on August 18. ‘Chalo Assembly’With regard to transfer of grants and responsibilities to sarpanchs, Mr. Naidu called upon sarpanches to participate in the ‘Chalo Assembly’ programme on August 28 as Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy had failed to honour the assurance he had given to the association during Assembly elections in 2004. The Chief Minister converted the system into ‘MLA Raj’, he charged. He said the government had reduced the stamp duty amount from three per cent to one per cent and also releasing grants to Congress leaders for execution of various works in villages. G. Raja Rao, president of the District Sarpanches Association, and others were present.
