Yet to find a solution: Kerala Water Authority workers digging a trench on M.C. Road to fix a leaking pipeline of the Kuttanad Water Supply scheme at Thirumoolapuram, near Thiruvalla, on Friday. PATHANAMTHITTA: Bursting of the main pipeline of the Kuttanad Water Supply Scheme along the Kallisserry-Changanacherry stretch of M.C. Road has become a regular feature, disrupting drinking water supply to Thiruvalla and Changanacherry municipal limits. The trenches dug for repair are also causing traffic bottlenecks. According to experts attached to the Kerala Water Authority (KWA), the bursting of pipes is due to the inferior quality of material used. They said the pipe joints were not strong enough to stand the high pressure inside, leading to frequent pipe bursts. Many KWA experts are of the view that replacing the old pipeline is the lone way out of the frequent bursts which disrupts drinking water supply to many parts of Thiruvalla and Kuttanad. Moreover, the damage to M.C. Road as well certain other link roads has also become another major cause of concern of the people in this part of the State. The KWA authorities dig large trenches on the road to repair the damaged pipe joints, badly damaging the road surface. In many cases, the damaged road portion remain ill-repaired till the next resurfacing of the road, leaving them veritable death traps as far as motorists are concerned.
