HYDERABAD: Information with regard to the names of rowdy-sheeters registered at various police stations on different grounds cannot be divulged due to issues of law and order. This was made clear by Chief Information Commissioner C.D. Arha in response to an appeal filed by Amjedullah Khan, former corporator of Chanchalguda, who sought the information on number of CDC/ rowdy-sheeters; the criteria employed to treat someone as a CDC/ rowdy-sheeter and whether there was any review being taken up on the issue. The MBT leader had filed an appeal with the commission complaining that the city police was not divulging full information with regard to details like name, age, address and crime number under the IPC section, police station-wise. He also sought to know how many persons were being treated as rowdy-sheeters and since how many years; apart from wanting to know whether there was a review of such cases. He also wanted information on whether the IPC permits the police to treat a person as a rowdy-sheeter. DirectionsThe police furnished the information but Mr. Amjedullah, apparently not satisfied with what was provided, preferred to go for another appeal. The Information Commission sent notices to the officials to appear before it and sought their response. After examining the issue with both the parties, the commission asked the police to give full details of G.O. Nos. 596 and 599 of A.P. Police Manual indicating the procedure, composition of the committee to review the list and frequency prescribed for the review meetings. However, on the issue of releasing names, it said, that they cannot be divulged due to law and order issues and ordered the closure of the case.
