Southern Railway in final

Madurai: Defending champion Southern Railway, Chennai and Indian Bank, Chennai entered the final of the Rajamani-Kanagamani Ammal memorial Trophy State-level hockey tournament at the Police Centenary stadium here on Friday.

Southern Railway edged past Indian Overseas Bank, Chennai, by the odd goal in three and Indian Bank beat last year’s runner-up Integral Coach Factory, Chennai 2-0.

Trailing by a 12th minute goal by IOB’s Felix till 42nd minute, Southern Railway rallied to score the equaliser through Divakar (42nd minute) and the winner through Arumugam almost at the hooter.

For Indian Bank, both the goals were scored by Philip Martin (24th and 60th).

Sathyabama posts win

Sathyabama University beat Saraswathy Thiagaraja College, Pollachi 25-15, 25-21, 22-25, 25-21 and Srikrishna College, Coimbatore beat SIT, Kariapatti 25-15, 25-22, 25-23 in the semifinal round-robin league in men’s section in the Doss Remi Trophy State-level inter-collegiate volleyball tournament at Sawyerpuram near Tuticorin on Thursday.

In the women’s four-team super-league, Vishnava College, Chennai beat PSGR College, Coimbatore 25-22, 18-25, 25-21, 25-15, SRM University defeated St. Joseph’s Engg. College, Chennai 25-20, 25-23, 22-25, 25-13.

Prabhakar shines

K. Prabhakar’s half-century helped Muthiah Alagappa MHSS, Kottaiyur defeat Christu Raja MHSS, Tiruppattur by 130 runs in the Sivagangai District Boost Trophy inter-school cricket tournament at Karaikudi on Friday.

The scores: Muthiah Alagappa MHSS 209 for nine in 20 overs (K. Prabhakar 56, Vetrivel five for 42) bt Christu Raja MHSS 79 in 16 overs (Muthuselvan four for 15); Alagappa MHSS 142 for seven in 20 overs (Prasanna Kumar three for 19) bt Kalaivani Vidyalaya, Karaikudi 109 in 18 overs; Vairavar MHSS 52 in 12 overs (Sheik Abdullah three for 27, Harish Balaji three for five) lost to Maharishi Vidya Mandir 53 for six in 10 overs (Tittani three for 24); LFRC School 162 for seven in 20 overs bt Britto School, Kalial 117 in 15 overs (Pandiyarajan three for 26).

MSEC retains title

Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi, retained the team title in the Anna University zone X inter-collegiate badminton tournament defeating host Government Engineering College, Tirunelveli 3-0 at Tirunelveli on Thursday.

The results (final): Mepco SEC bt GEC, Tirunelveli 3-0.
