Bangalore: The under-19 batch commenced training at the National Cricket Academy here on Friday. The camp features 30 players and will conclude on September 30. Among the trainees, 28 turned up for the first day and two more players are expected to join later. The trainees were split into two batches on the opening day and one group went to a nearby hospital for a round of medical tests while the second group underwent fitness assessment inside the academy. The batches will have their roles reversed on Saturday. The camp will gather steam from Monday. Vijay scalps fiveVijay’s five-wicket haul helped Sri Jnanakshi Vidyaniketan defeat Evershine HS by 10 runs in a B.T. Ramaiah Shield under-15 tournament match here on Friday. The scores: Sri Jnanakshi Vidyaniketan 130 for four in 25 overs (B.S. Adithya 41) bt Evershine HS 120 in 23.4 overs (Sujith N. Gowda 61, Vijay five for 16); Cathedral HS 105 in 21 overs (M. Subash five for 18) bt BP Indian HS 56 in 17.1 overs. Big win for BethanyBethany High School notched up a seven-wicket win over A.V. Education in the Nazeer memorial inter-school T20 cricket tournament, at the NAL grounds here on Friday. AV Education was restricted to 78 for eight in its 20 overs and Bethany needed just 10.5 overs to score the required runs. The scores: A.V. Education 78 for eight in 20 overs lost to Bethany HS 79 for three in 10.5 overs; Mallya Aditi International School w/o Oxford School (J.P. Nagar); Carmel HS (B’vanagar) w/o Max Muller School. St. John’s posts winSt. John’s High School defeated Bishop Cotton’s 6-1 in the Allan Macbride inter-school hockey tournament for boys under-12 here on Friday. Henry performed a hat-trick, scoring in the 16th, 20th and 31st minutes, while Joel chipped in with two goals (32nd & 46th). Safiulla opened the scoring for St. John’s in the fifth minute. Raghuram (seventh) was Bishop Cotton’s scorer. In the girls’ tournament (up to 10th standard) for the Tanvi Rao Trophy, St. Francis Xavier’s ‘B’ beat St John’s 1-0 thanks to Sri Archana’s goal in the 16th minute. Frank Anthony Public School and Bishop Cotton’s ‘B’ played out a goalless draw in another encounter. Emphatic victoryBhagwan Mahaveer Jain College scored an emphatic 6-1 victory over St. Joseph’s Pre-University College in the KSHA inter-collegiate league hockey tournament here on Friday. Hari Govind (10th, 11th & 43rd), Naeemuddin (35th & 55th) and Avinash (57th) were the scorers for Bhagwan Mahaveer. Thimmana (41st) scored St. Joseph’s consolation goal. In another fixture, Al-Ameen trounced IIM (B) 8-0. Birju (fourth &13th), Kabor Sharma (11th & 57th), Suresh (23rd & 25th), Mandanna (20th) and Somanna (50th) were on target for Al-Ameen.
