NEW DELHI: Three members of the much talked about “Bunty gang”, including one carrying a cash reward of Rs.50,000 on his head, have been arrested for alleged involvement in over a dozen cases of murder, dacoity, robbery, kidnapping and snatching reported in the Capital and adjoining areas in recent days and weeks. The gang had allegedly committed three murders and four robberies within a span of six days this past July causing widespread panic in South Delhi. Following a huge public outcry over the sudden spurt in violent incidents, the police announced cash rewards of Rs.50,000 on each of the five members of the gang. Two of the accused -- Nasir alias Zakir (27) and Mushtaq (24) -- were arrested when they came to meet Guddan, wife of their accomplice Israil alias Ajay, at V.P. Singh Camp in Okhla on Thursday evening. A loaded country-made pistol, a live cartridge and a knife were allegedly seized from them. The motorcycle they were riding was also found to be stolen from the Okhla Industrial Area and had allegedly been used in several crimes. Their third accomplice, Rakesh alias Chholewala, was arrested later at their instance. The trio along with the other gangsters allegedly robbed an electronics goods showroom at Kalkaji in South Delhi on July 6 and snatched a Pulsar motorcycle at knife-point on Ring Road later in the day. On July 11, they allegedly shot dead two young men in the busy residential-cum-market area of Amar Colony while snatching their motorcycle. A few hours later, the accused opened fire while trying to snatch another motorcycle in Defence Colony; the bullet accidentally hit a man on a scooter killing him on the spot. On July 12, a shopkeeper and his friend were badly wounded when the gang members fired at them during a robbery at Ambedkar Nagar. The gang is also alleged to have been involved in a murder and kidnapping case registered at the Sangam Vihar police station and a robbery at the Sarita Vihar petrol pump besides several other cases of dacoity in and around the Capital. The members of the gang had been hiding in a remote village in Noida next door to Delhi from June 28 to July 17. The police claim to have recovered two motorcycles stolen on July 11 during raids. Four members of the gang, including their leader Om Prakash alias Bunty, are still absconding. All four carry cash rewards of Rs.50,000 each.
