CHENNAI: Ten more persons have been affected with acute diarrhoeal disorder at Pattaravakkam, Ambattur. They were admitted to the Communicable Diseases Hospital (CDH), Tondiarpet, and Ambattur Municipality Health Post in Padi on Friday. The number of people from the area undergoing treatment for ADD has risen to 44 since Tuesday. An Ambattur Municipality official, however, said the cases were on the decline. Most of the patients were from the Brahmin Street and Mariamman Koil Street at Pattaravakkam. Two cases were from the neighbouring locality Kachanangkuppam. The municipality was taking preventive measures in the area that had a major population of workers in industrial units. On Tuesday, nearly 50 persons, hailing from Bihar and Orissa, complained of bouts of vomiting and diarrhoea. The results of the drinking water sample taken from the hand pump in the area, which have been sent for tests to King Institute of Preventive Medicine, Guindy, is expected on Saturday. Notices have been issued to about 20 industrial units for accommodating workers affected with the acute diarrhoeal disorder and not reporting about patients to the local body, the official said.
