Crude bomb found

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The police found a country-made bomb abandoned near a tank bund on the outskirts of Channapatna on Friday.

Inspector General of Police (Central) Kamalpanth said the bomb was found by passers-by who informed the police.

The local police and the bomb detection squad went to the spot and defused it.

Mr. Kamalpath said that a small “zarda” box had been filled with some “slurry” type material. “Experts are testing the material,” he said.

This explosive object had nothing to do with the explosive material that was found on July 24, he added.

Mr. Kamalpanth said investigation was on to trace those who made use of the explosive ammonium nitrate that was discovered from the blast site in Channapatna.

The police had found this material a day before the serial blasts in Bangalore on July 25.
