‘Ksheerabhishekam’: Rajnikant fans pouring milk on the superstar’s film poster at Nataraj cinema, when ‘Kuselan’ was released in Bangalore on Friday. BANGALORE: Allaying apprehensions, the Rajnikant-starrer Kuselan made a quiet entry in the city on Friday, a contrast to the hoopla that surrounded his last blockbuster, Shivaji. Security was tight both inside and outside cinemas on Friday. As many as 18 theatres, including the five multiplexes, screened the film in which, for a change, the superstar has a shortened role. Kannada groups had threatened to block its release if the actor did not apologise for his remarks in connection with the Hogenakkal row between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The tension was defused with the actor’s assuaging statement made before TV cameras in Hyderabad on Thursday. Fans in his hometown of Bangalore queued up and some theatres witnessed “ksheerabhishekam” to the film’s cut-outs and distribution of lunch packets, mainly puliogre and curd rice. “This is how we remember our star, who is benevolent,” said Sukumar, a Rajnikant admirer. People started to gather at Nataraj cinema since 6 a.m. for the 10 O’clock show. Garlands made of red roses were found on the small poster of the movie near the theatre. “Please come on Sunday for the grand decoration,” said Shivakumar, a fan, told The Hindu. Though there was not much action at Cauvery cinema around 9 a.m., people from different parts of the city had come to purchase tickets for the evening show. “I skipped college today as I wanted to see this film which has made so much of news. I am happy that I got the ticket,” said S. Ravi, a student. Apart from being on security duty, some policemen at the theatre were besieged by calls from fans seeking help in getting tickets.
