Car driver flees with Rs. 56 lakh in cash

BANGALORE: The driver of a car allegedly drove away with Rs. 56 lakh in cash which was meant to be deposited in a bank on Richmond Road. The driver abandoned the vehicle in Jeevan Bima Nagar and fled with the cash.

The police said Narayana, the driver, was hired by A.P. Security Agency, which is entrusted with depositing money from various finance companies in banks. On Friday, two persons from the security agency and a security guard went about collecting the money.

They first collected Rs. 56 lakh from Tata Finance on Airport Road. They then went to another company on Indiranagar 13th Main Road. Even as the two staff of the security agency went in to collect the money, the security guard was guiding Narayana towards the parking area. However, instead of parking the vehicle, Narayana drove away with the cash, leaving the security guard, Yeerappa, behind.

The security agency immediately informed the police, who launched a manhunt. The police have found the abandoned car. A search is on for Narayana.

Arrested

The city police have arrested three persons for allegedly desecrating two shrines in J.C. Nagar and Hebbal, on July 11. According to the police, the three accused are members of Sri Rama Sena.

The police said Nandish (27), K.N. Sailesh (32) and Mahesh (26), all residents of Hebbal, went in a van and desecrated the two religious places. A police constable, who was on patrol in J.C. Nagar, spotted the accused. The police have launched a search for a fourth man.

The three were produced before a city magistrate, who remanded them to judicial custody.

The desecration caused tension and there were protests in front of the J.C. Nagar police station. The demonstration turned violent as some threw stones at the police station. Siddaraju, a police constable, and three police officers were injured in the incident.

Held

The S.J. Park police have arrested two persons allegedly involved in several cases of theft/robbery reported recently. The police said Firoz (28) of Haleguddadahalli and Srinivas (28) of Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu were robbing people of gold and other valuables.

They were arrested for robbing K. Laxman of a gold chain and cash on S.J.P. Road Cross on July 13.

The accused were also allegedly involved in thefts reported in Ulsoor Gate, Wilson Garden and Shankarpuram police station limits. The police are searching for another person who is part of the gang.

Toy found

A packet containing a toy created scare among the residents of Sutguntepalya near Byappanahalli on Thursday.

According to the police, a resident called the police control room around 10.30 a.m. about the packet that was found abandoned near HMT compound.

The caller found two wires protruding from the packet, the police said.

The Byappanahalli police came to the spot with the bomb detection squad and the dog squad. The squad opened the packet and removed the soft musical doll.
