East Bengal keeps winning

KOLKATA: East Bengal produced a good show of attacking football to beat Peerless SC 3-1 in a premier division match of the Calcutta Football League here on Friday.

After sputtering initially in the tournament, the former champion, which drew twice and lost one match in the previous rounds, seems to getting into rhythm gradually.

East Bengal scored the opener in the 21st minute through Ashim Biswas and Praveen Kumar doubled the lead seven minutes later making the most of an abortive offside attempted by the opponents.

Peerless came back into the action in the injury-time just before interval with its African recruit Emanuel Junior nodding home the only goal of his team(2-1).

With Das and Kumar combining effectively in a 66th minute attack, East Bengal made it 3-1 to ensure the full quota of points. With 11 points from six matches, East Bengal moved to the second spot. — Principal Correspondent
