Rajnikanth in a scene from ‘Kuselan’ KOCHI: Actor Rajnikanth’s Kuselan is the talk of the town, with the fans of the actor terming the film a ‘roaring success’. A remake of the Malayalam film, Katha Parayumbol, Kuselan was released across 80 centres in the State on Friday. Fans screamed and danced inside the cinema halls, proving once again that the hysteria associated with the release of a Rajnikanth movie simply refuses to die. Says Ramesh, an accountant in a private firm in the city: “I was a bit worried by reports that Rajni Sir was having a kind of guest role in the movie. But after watching it on the first day, I am happy. Even though his entry is delayed, he is just rocking. The film is going to be a super hit”. Kuselan had hit the headlines after Rajnikanth was moved by the story and narration adopted in the original, Katha Parayumbol. The Tamil movie was produced by Kavithalaya promoted by senior director K. Balachandar and Seven Arts Films. In Katha Parayumbol, Srinivasan played the role of a barber while Mammootty played a super star. In Kuselan, Pasupathy plays Srinivasan’s role, and Rajnikanth does Mammootty’s role. Fans of Rajnikanth say that director P. Vasu has not cut down scenes of the super star in Kuselan. “He is taking the movie on his shoulders right from the moment he enters the script. His style is just superb. The Rajni magic is very much there in Kuselan. His dance and dialogue rendering are a real treat to watch,” says Kathirvel, an ardent fan. Pasupathy has also earned applause for his deft portrayal of the role of a barber in the movie. Senthil, a Plus Two student, says that Pasupathy has come up with a splendid performance. “Pasupathy matches the performance of Srinivasan. In certain scenes, he is one step ahead of the Malayalam actor,” he says.
