Children get training in editing skills

KORAPUT: Every child can express his thoughts and observations in one way or the other. Basing on this principle of child participation efforts are being made by Peoples Group for Children’s Development (PGCD) in Koraput district to bring out the best out the children. While the strength of child reporters has increased from 1,500 in the district to nearly 5,000 children with the support of UNICEF and SSA, now, children are also been given orientation to function as the child editors for their newsletter.

In this connection about 15 child reporters from Koraput had the opportunity to visit the office of a vernacular daily ‘Sambad’ to meet and interact the sub-editors on the ways and principles of editing .These child editors would now be holding the responsibility of going through the correspondence from the child reporters, being encouraged in different parts of Koraput district, Sarat Kumar Patnaik, Secretary of PGCD Secretariat said at Koraput.

This would create an opportunity for the children of Koraput district to understand the rural and urban realities. Further, Sishu Bhavan, a house for the children with an exclusive children’s library along with activity corners to draw, paint and document their imaginations as and when they are born in their mind was also under preparation at Koraput, he added.

While this house would promote child participation experience among the children would also be important in providing appropriate platforms for their creativity, Padmini Pathi, gender coordinator of SSA of Koraput added.
