Call for movement to protect Telugu

Minister flags off rally

MACHILIPATNAM: Calling upon the youth to launch a movement to protect Telugu language on the lines of ‘Satyagraha’ taken up by Mahatma Gandhi against foreign goods and clothes, Animal Husbandry Ministry Mandali Buddha Prasad on Saturday wanted parents to encourage their wards to speak in Telugu at home.

The Minister, who is also the honorary president of the Krishna District Writers’ Association, flagged-off ‘Telugu Bhasha Samskruthi Yatra’ organised by the Centenary Celebrations Committee of the Late Bezawada Gopala Reddy at Andhra National College here.

Coincidence

Mr. Buddha Prasad said he was happy to note the coincidence that the rally was being flagged-off on the birth anniversary of Pingali Venkaiah, the designer of the national flag, and Ballari Raghava, a crusader of Telugu language and culture.

“The organisers are planning to cover Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore districts and organise a public meeting in Nellore town. I am sure, this rally will inspire many more people who love Telugu and encourage them to conduct similar programmes,” he said.

Over 100 enrolled

Coordinator of the committee and chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Hindi Academy Yarlagadda Lakshmi Prasad said that over 100 people enrolled their names to participate in the rally, which was a manifestation of their love for the language.

President of the Krishna District Writers’ Association Guttikonda Subba Rao presided over the meeting.

Non-resident Indians -- Kuchibhotla Anand, Kaza Venkateswara Rao, A. Srinivasa Reddy and others were present.
