Raichur: The police resorted to a mild lathi-charge to disperse an irate mob in connection with an alleged assault on three teachers of the Government Composite High School in Madagiri village of Manvi taluk on Saturday. According to reports, 14 youths allegedly entered the school and assaulted the teachers — Lingappa, Karilingappa and Prabhulingappa. They have been admitted to the primary health centre in Sirwar town. The police said that there were complaints that a male student was teasing a female student. He continued to tease her though the headmaster of the school had warned him. On Saturday, the student, along with 13 others, allegedly entered the school and threatened the girl with dire consequences. They assaulted the teachers when they tried to settle the issue. However, some residents of the villagemanaged to lock the students into a room and lodged a complaint with the police. But they asked the police to hand the accused over to them. This led to an altercation between them and the students. The situation went out of control when the accused and his followers started throwing stones at the residents. They also damaged some two-wheelers and set fire to an autorickshaw. The situation was brought under control when the police resorted to lathi-charge. The police have arrested seven persons. The other seven are absconding.
