AIADMK urges Lt. Governor to convene Assembly session

Special Correspondent

PUDUCHERRY: Secretary of the Puducherry unit of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) A. Anbalagan on Saturday pleaded with the Lieutenant Governor to “invoke his special powers to convene the Assembly session as the administration had come to a standstill, owing to infighting in the Cabinet.”

He told reporters here that Chief Minister N. Rangasamy should seek a trust vote to prove his majority in the Assembly as parties such as the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, the Pattali Makkal Katchi and the Communist Party of India which had hitherto been supporting the government had started opposing it.

Almost 90 per cent of the schemes announced by the government had been “kept in cold storage,” he said, adding that various projects aimed at promoting the welfare of the Scheduled Castes, the Backward Classes and below the poverty line groups had not taken off.

Citing an example, he said around 30 schemes were announced by the Welfare Minister on the floor of the Assembly but none of them had been implemented.

Though Rs.253 crore had been earmarked for the Special Component Plan, projects such as issuance of free house sites in the rural areas and construction of tenements in urban areas for Adi Dravidars had not been implemented, he said.

He accused the government of not fulfilling its responsibilities in other sectors, including Agriculture and Education.

The territorial government had incurred expenditure to the tune of Rs.75 lakh, owing to frequent trips undertaken by the Chief Minister and his Cabinet colleagues to Delhi during the last six months, he said, adding that the funds used by them for purposes other than discharging their official responsibilities should be recovered from them.
