NEW DELHI: Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Ram Vilas Paswan has assured that he would convene a special meeting of officials on August 5 to review the fertilizer situation in Andhra Pradesh as there are complaints of severe shortage, particularly complexes, in the State. He told this to a delegation of Telengana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) led by its Hanamkonda Member of Parliament Boianapalli Vinodkumar, which called on him here on Saturday. The delegation pointed out to the Minister that the non-availability of fertilizer, particularly complexes, was so severe in Karimnagar, Adilabad and Warangal districts that a farmer even committed suicide unable to save his crops from insects. It may be recalled that Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, during his visit to Delhi last month, highlighted the plight of farmers to Mr. Paswan and wanted the latter to allocate additional quantities of 50,000 tonnes each of DAP and complexes to the State for July. He pointed out that the Union Fertilizers Department had approved the supply of DAP of 1.25 lakh tonnes for July to the State against the requirement of 1.40 lakh tonnes.
