Statutory inquiry into Gautami Express fire

HYDERABAD: A statutory inquiry will be conducted by the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety, R.P. Agarwal, into the fire on Gautami Express.

The officer will hold the inquiry at the Railway Rest House in Warangal railway station on August 3 and 4.

A press release asked members of the public who knew anything relating to the accident and wishing to give evidence to come forward in person or in writing. Communication may be addressed to Commissioner of Railway Safety, South Central Circle, Opp. to Rail Nilayam, Sarojini Devi Road, Secunderabad-500 071 or over phone at 040-27820104.

As for some of the injured passengers who were being treated at the MGM Hospital in Warangal, K. Nagamani (23) who suffered grievous injuries, was shifted to the Yashoda Hospital in the State capital, while A. Srinivasa Reddy (38) and A. Jhansi Lakshmi (35) were brought to Sairam Hospital here. Some others were admitted at the Railway Hospital in Lallaguda, Secunderabad and in Vijayawada. An ex gratia of Rs. 15,000 each to relatives of the two deceased who were identified, had been paid, apart from Rs. 5,000 to each of those grievously injured.

The compensation would be paid to affected passengers through the Railway Claims Tribunal. A special cell was opened to monitor and assist in compensation cases at the ‘C’ block, Rail Nilayam in Secunderabad.
