BANGALORE: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa has instructed the top police officials to “blacklist” their subordinates who maintained links with anti-social elements and naxalites. Addressing a meeting of the top police brass here on Saturday, Mr. Yeddyurappa said the police had to keep an eye on officials and the people, residing in urban areas, who had been supporting anti-social elements and naxal activities. For collecting information on the movements and activities of naxals and other anti-national elements, the State intelligence personnel would be provided training by ex-servicemen. Making the State free from crime and terrorism was the priority of the Government, he said. The State was facing several challenges on the security front and naxalism was one of them. It is the responsibility of the police to arrest the people indulging in and supporting the anti-social activities in various forms. A well-equipped anti-terrorist cell squad was being set up in Bangalore, the Chief Minister said. Besides Rs. 97 crore set aside in the State Budget, an additional Rs. 25 crore had been earmarked for modernisation of the police force. He said Rs. 45 crore had been allocated for providing housing to families of police personnel and Rs. 10 crore for house repair works. Home Minister V.S. Acharya urged the police to keep a vigil on the movement of terrorists belonging to organisations such as SIMI, Lashkar-e- Taiba and naxalites in coastal districts and Hyderabad-Karnataka. Revenue Minister G. Karunakara Reddy said earlier village accountants used to support intelligence wing of the State. In an effort to end the naxal menace in villages, village accountants would be asked to resume their role in collecting information on the movements of anti-social elements, he said. Director-General and Inspector-General of Police R. Srikumar and Bangalore Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari attended the meeting.
