PALAKKAD: The Southern Railway has registered a record 32 per cent increase in freight movement. According to railway authorities here, in July, the railway recorded originating loading of approximately 3.2 million tonnes — 32 per cent higher than that in the same month last year. The Palakkad Railway Division posted the highest ever loading of limestone from Mangalore Port. Compared to July last year, the Thiruvananthapuram Division registered 25 per cent increase in loading of petroleum products, the Chennai Division recorded 23 per cent rise in loading of coal from Chennai and Ennore and the Madurai Division posted 80 per cent increase.
