CHANDIGARH: The Anil Ambani-led Reliance Communications is going to set up an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) University in Punjab on the lines of the Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology, Gandhinagar. Mohanbir Singh Sidhu, State Additional Director for Technical Education, said: “In February, the government had offered land in Birla Farm in Ropar, where 800 acres is lying vacant, and in Fatehgarh Sahib. The company has now shown interest in taking the land in Ropar. It has submitted its complete proposal and given its strategy. The land will be given on the mutually agreed price.” 60 acres for campusReliance had asked the government to provide 60 acres to build the campus and plans an intake of 1,260 students in various courses. The University is expected to come up in 2010. It will be a non-affiliated University offering courses such as B.Tech. (ICT), M.Tech. (ICT), and MS (IT). Reliance Communications also has plans to come up with similar projects in Jammu and Kashmir and West Bengal (Kolkata).
