BHUBANESWAR: The State government has sanctioned creation of seven more vigilance unit offices in different districts to strengthen its anti-corruption drive. According to a Vigilance Department statement released here on Saturday, seven vigilance unit offices would be located at Dhenkanal under Cuttack vigilance division, Jharsuguda, Subarnapur and Deogarh under Sambalpur vigilance division, Nabarangpur and Nuapada under Koraput vigilance division and Boudh under Berhampur vigilance division. The new units would function with an officer of the rank of a Deputy Superintendent of Police and one inspector with ancillary supporting staff, the Vigilance Department said, adding that steps were being taken to equip these units with latest equipment and gadgets required for anti-corruption work. Earlier there were only vigilance squad offices at Dhenkanal, Nabarangpur and Jharsuguda with only one inspector each, which were found to be inadequate to meet the public demand to successfully implement the anti-corruption programmes. Thus the three squads were upgraded to vigilance units with additional staff, Vigilance Department said.
