KOCHI: P.C. Thomas, MP, has said that the farmers’ convention held in Kottayam on July 26 was convened by independent organisations of farmers. About 1,000 farmers belonging to 30 organisations from all the districts of Kerala participated in it. These organisations were convening another meet to discuss the farm loan waiver issue at Kasaragod on August 3. A deriding comment made by a Kerala Congress(M) leader on the farmers’ convention would be ignored by the farmers’ community, he said in a statement. No political party could oppose the efforts being made by a united movement of farmers, Mr. Thomas added. On his part, he would not abandon the farmers, Mr. Thomas said. He would continue to associate with them so that eligible farmers get the benefit of the loan waiver scheme. He said no promises were being offered at the conventions.
