HYDERABAD: New tourism circuits are planned to exploit diverse attractions in the State and for projecting it as destination for all categories of travellers.

Interacting with mediapersons here on Saturday, Tourism Minister A. Ramnarayan Reddy said the Centre had sanctioned Rs. 261 crore for eco-tourism, rural tourism, adventure tourism, temple tourism circuits. Some of the projects had been completed while others were in progress.

Priority projects

Some of the priority projects were in Dharmavaram in Anantapur district, Kuchipudi in Krishna, Etikoppaka in Vizag and Nirmal in Adilabad, beach destination projects at Ramayapatnam and Hamsaladivi.

While Kondapalli, Bhuvanagiri and Udayagiri would be developed as port destinations, Buddhist circuits would come up at Guntupalli and Phanigiri and eco-destinations were planned at Nellore Tank and Bhadrachalam.

Emphasising that focus was given to tourism infrastructure development as well as trained manpower, he said an institute of travel and tourism management would be set up in Nellore and the one at Tirupati would be upgraded on the lines of National Institute of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Hyderabad.

Following the popularity of Godavari -- Papikondalu cruise and houseboat project at Dindi in East Godavari, Union government had given approval for new houseboat adventure tourism projects. The Nagarjunasagar-Srisailam boat ride that was discontinued following naxal threat would also be revived after clearance from district police officials, he said.

APTDC Managing Director Jayesh Ranjan said eco-adventure tourism project at Anantagiri in Vikarabad, medical tourism resort at Shamirpet and City Museum at Bapu Ghat were new projects proposed in and around the city.
