I have nothing to do with alleged eviction: Minister
Special Correspondent
Veerapandi Arumugam
CHENNAI: State Agriculture Minister Veerapandi Arumugam on Saturday said that he had nothing to do with the alleged forcible eviction of 31 families from Angammal Colony, Salem, or the issue relating to the Salem Collectorate building.
Referring to a public interest litigation on the two issues, in which he has been cited as a respondent, Mr. Arumugam, in a statement here, said he had been unnecessarily impleaded in the case with a view to tarnishing his image acquired during 52 years of public life.
The owners of the land themselves had stated that there was no link between him and the land issue. It was a civil dispute between the owners and those residing on the land. That being so, the petition had been filed for publicity by which his name had been spoilt. Similarly, he did not interfere in the Salem Collectorate building issue.
Mr. Arumugam said he would initiate civil and criminal proceedings against three advocates, Manoharan, Haribabu and Damayanthi, for defaming him.
