Bangalore: Reliance Timeout on Cunningham Road embarked on a new project on Saturday — the launch of the Reliance Timeout book club. The club promises many benefits to its members including discount on purchases, readings, literary workshops and exclusive invites, among other things. On the occasion of the launch of the book Gentlemen, authored by dermatologist and theatre person Anil Abraham, monologues from the book were performed by Ashvin Matthew, Ajit Hande and the author himself. Author Shashi Deshpande’s short story was performed by Surabhi Jyotirmayee from the theatre group Version One Dot Oh. At the launch, held in association with Unisun publications, there were performances and an open discussion, and the idea was to push the culture of reading, said Annie Chandy Matthew of Unisun Publications. Ms. Jyotirmayee performed “And have they decided?”, a short story about Draupadi by Ms. Deshpande which explores “the search for the truth of a mythical woman, which ended up as a voyage of self-discovery,” in Ms. Deshpande’s words. Bringing the male perspective forward was Dr. Abraham’s monologues from Gentlemen. He has written about issues concerning men with humour, wit and local flavour. “Being a doctor helps, because I meet people I would have never met otherwise, and talk to them about things I would have never known,” he said. Those who sign up for the Reliance Timeout book club in the coming week will get free membership. Call Reliance Timeout on 080-22965265 for further details.
