New Delhi
NEW DELHI: Jamia Millia Islamia is teaming up with Delhi Poetree to rejuvenate the charm of poetry in the Capital. The Cultural Committee at Jamia and Delhi Poetree have launched “Mon Poetree Jam” – a poetry session to work towards leveraging the power of poetry to promote the vision of an introspective and caring society. From Monday, Jamia will open its doors to poetry lovers from all walks of life to either come as audience or participate in these poetry sessions to be held on every first and third Monday of the month at Arafat Hall on the campus. A featured poet will read his/her poetry followed by activities like “Ten-minute Talk”, “The Great Game of Poetry” and “Open Mike.” Delhi Poetree is the brainchild of poet laureate Amit Dahiyabadshah who has been advocating the promotion of poetry in the National Capital Region. Mr. Dahiyabadshah intends to give at least 30 poetry readings across the city per month. He wishes to identify and honour 100 poets as the “living treasures” of the Capital. Promoting Urdu poetry“This new joint venture with Jamia has three measurable objectives. First, to publish a book on the Sufi poetry of Delhi in the near future. Second, to publish a 1,000-page anthology of contemporary Urdu poetry with adaptations in the Roman and Devnagari scripts, to promote greater interest. And third, to take young Urdu poets across the city to diverse audiences and bring diverse poets in several languages to the Urdu speaking parts of the city,” said Jamia media coordinator Rakhshanda Jalisl.
