‘Male Barali, Manju Irali’ begins in Kodagu

MADAPUR (KODAGU): “Muhurta” of Male Barali, Manju Irali, a Kannada movie being directed and produced by Vijayalakshmi Singh and shot under the banner of Dakshat Combines, was performed at the Channamma Junior College here on Sunday. M.P. Appachu Ranjan, Madikeri MLA, clapped the board to signal the commencement of shooting. The former president of Kodagu Zilla Panchayat K.P. Chandrakala switched on the camera.

This is the second film being directed and produced by Ms. Singh after Ee Bandhana. The film will be ready for release in December and is being shot at a cost of Rs. 2.5 crore.

Addressing presspersons, Jai Jagadish, actor/director and husband of Ms. Singh, said that it was a love story in a coffee plantation in Kodagu. Shooting would be held in different locations of Kodagu. The film would be shot in rain and dew, synonymous with its title. This was the first Kannada movie whose “muhurta” was performed in Kodagu, Mr. Jagdish, who hails from Kodagu, said.

Ms. Singh said that she had involved the same team of technicians who had worked with her in her first directorial venture. Her husband was playing a supporting role. On the title of the film, she said that she was inspired by a newspaper headline recently and decided to go ahead with it. ‘Mukhyamantri’ Chandru and Hema Chaudhary will play the roles of coffee plantation owners. Sringar Kitty is in the lead role while Parvathi Menon is the heroine. Nagkiran, from Somwarpet is also in a lead role. Actor Lakshman will play the part of an MLA. Umashree and Sadhu Kokila are also in the cast.
