About Rs. 2 cr. allegedly swindled in last few years Accounts not sent for scrutiny of higher officials Kakinada: Additional project coordinator of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) D.N. Murthy has been suspended on charges of corruption as per recommendation of Assembly Committee on SSA. Headed by MLA Nadendla Manohar, the committee had taken serious view of irregularities in implementing the SSA and held Mr. Murthy responsible for obfuscation of facts and embezzlement of funds on a large scale. According to sources, the committee had seized some important files under the possession of Mr. Murthy and found that the SSA was replete with instances of diversion of funds to purposes other than those meant to promote school education and other expenditure not accounted for. A total sum of exceeding Rs 2 crore was allegedly swindled in the last few years. He could not support his claims as records had enough evidence of his alleged misdeeds. He had not sent certain accounts for scrutiny by higher officials of SSA. He had apparently siphoned off funds meant for construction of additional classrooms in collusion with contractors, spent only a small portion of funds sanctioned for mitigation of child labour and did several other things that made a dent in the SSA.
