Winning trust of people - Reader's Mail

At last the UPA Government survived in the trust vote on the floor of Parliament on July 22.

Many a member from different parties had done cross-voting. After that the parties suspended them. Perhaps the UPA Government wooed the members from other parties. After the trust vote the Government was free from pressure from supporting parties and independent to sign the nuclear deal with the US. Though the Government claimed to have the support of majority of the members another acid test is in the offing i.e. to go directly to people in the Lok Sabha elections and to seek final approval of the said deal and all the other works being undertaken by the Government.

If they succeed then only will it be presumed that the Government has possessed trust.

S. R. Krishna,

Berhampur

Stray menace

The authorities of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation seem to be blissfully ignorant of the rising number of stray cows and bulls in all parts of the city. The slums of the city, many of them in the government colonies surrounding the State Secretariat, are overflowing with stray cows, bulls and goats.

It is common knowledge that the authorities are not able to check the growth of illegal slum clusters under pressure from their political bosses and some corporators.

They are not able to demolish the slums; although they keep taking steps in this regard from time to time.

The authorities can at least conduct raids on the slum clusters to prevent people from keeping cows whose presence on the roads leads to road accidents at frequent interval.

Saswati Pattnaik,

Bhubaneswar
