PUDUCHERRY: Activists of the Puducherry Poorviga Kudimakkal Urimai Padhukappu Peravai on Saturday observed a dawn-to-dusk fast, urging the government to declare November 1 as Independence Day for Puducherry. They urged the government to declare November 1 as a public holiday and hold official functions to mark the occasion. The forum had highlighted the demand on the basis of the de facto transfer of the four enclaves of Puducherry which were then under the French rule, with the Indian Union on November 1, 1954.
