Writing found on walls of old temples at Murugamal Role of local people in the incident ruled out KOLAR: Alleged pro-Pakistan writings by miscreants on walls of some old temples at Murugamal, near Chintamani in Chickballapur district, triggered tension on Sunday. The slogan “Pakistan Zindabad” on the walls of three shrines near the famous Murugamal Dargah, came to light on Sunday morning. Written in Kannada script, the slogan created discomfiture among people leading to an instant protest. An irate mob allegedly damaged a vehicle and tyres were burnt in protest against the incident. Some pro-Hindu activists led by Bharatiya Janata Party Chickballapur district unit president Satyanarayan Mahesh staged a protest at Chelur Circle demanding that the authorities nab the miscreants. The sources ruled out any hand of local people in the incident since Hindus and Muslims are living in amity for long time. Vehicular movement came to a grinding halt in the area following the protests. Superintendent of Police Ravindraprasad and Deputy Superintendent of Police Nanaiah rushed to the spot. Security has been tightened in the village. “A peace committee meeting has been held. The situation is under control,” Mr. Ravindraprasad said. The peace committee appealed to the people to maintain communal harmony and peace.
