Letters to the Editor
Pakistan, which continued to deny the assertion by India and Afghanistan that the ISI engineered the bombing of the Indian Embassy in Kabul, seems to have been cornered with the disclosure that the U.S. is in possession of communications intelligence that points to the ISI’s involvement. Unfortunately, even with a newly elected civil government in place, things have not changed for the better in Pakistan. It is no surprise that all its talk on the readiness to cooperate in the fight against terrorism is not matched by action on the ground. R. Sampath, Chennai Should we continue to talk to our hostile neighbour just for the sake of keeping the channels of communication open? It appears that India’s soft approach has been mistaken as a sign of weakness. When successive Pakistani establishments have demonstrated their unwillingness and incapability to rein in terrorist elements, there is no point in continuing with the façade of talks and meetings. A tough approach need not necessarily mean going to war. There are several other ways in which we can demonstrate that our threshold of tolerance has been breached. V.N. Mukundarajan, Thiruvananthapuram
