Chennai: Eighteen-year-old Tarun Veeraraghavan held his nerve in a thrilling three-way battle for the Sportstar Open golf tournament on Sunday, sealing victory in a sudden-death play-off, shooting par at the first hole. L. Selvadurai and Pradumna Prakash, who were tied with Tarun on 148 (8-over) at the end of two rounds of stroke for stroke, error for error golf, could only manage bogeys. The Open ended with Selvadurai missing a short putt for par that would have taken it to a two-man play-off in the second hole. The results: Open winner: Tarun Veeraraghavan, 148; Joint runners-up: L. Selvadurai and Pradumna Prakash, 148; Handicap winner: Harvijai Bhaiya, 136; first runner-up: Anish Iyer, 137; second runner-up: Venkat Krishnan, 139; Ladies handicap winner: Uma Hataria, 140; runner-up: Kiran Vaid, 146. Team winner: Dhananjaya Das & Ravi Andasu & Uma Hataria; Runner-up: Darshan Veeraraghavan & Sandeep Singh & Raj Dharmaraj; Bogey winner: Srinath; Stableford winner: Kiran Fernandes, 41 points; Closest to pin: Dhananjaya Das, Saturday, hole 17; Longest drive: Pradumna Prakash, Sunday, hole 7; Wooden spoon: Pavan Dogra. — Sports Reporter
