Six buses added to KSRTC fleet

BETTER facilities: Two ‘Rajahamsa’ and four ‘Sheetal’ bus services of the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation were launched in Mysore on Sunday.

MYSIORE: Six buses have been added to the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) fleet to provide services from Mysore to Tirupati, Hyderabad and Bangalore.

Flagging off the new bus services here on Sunday, Transport Minister R. Ashok said that the two “Rajahamsa” buses would connect Mysore with Tirupati and Hyderabad, while four “Sheetal” buses would ply between Mysore and Bangalore.

The bus to Tirupati will depart from the city at 9 p.m. and reach the destination at 5.35 a.m., and on its return journey, it will leave Tirupati at 9 p.m. and reach Mysore at 5.15 a.m. the next day.

The Mysore-Hyderabad bus will depart from the city at 3.45 p.m. and reach Hyderabad at 7 a.m. On its return journey, it will leave at 7.45 p.m. and arrive in Mysore at 9.15 a.m.

The Minister said that there would be a pay revision for KSRTC staff in two months, and it would be implemented with retrospective effect from January 2008. The retirement age of KSRTC staff had also been increased from 58 to 60, he added.

The Minister gave away silver medals to 18 drivers in Mysore division for having completed five years of accident-free driving. He awarded them with a cash prize of Rs. 2,000, and a special incentive of Rs. 50 a month, each.

It was pointed out that the Mysore Urban Division had earned a profit of Rs. 4.28 crore for the year 2007-08. In the first quarter of the current fiscal, KSRTC had made a profit of Rs. 2.43 crore, and it to achieve a profit of Rs.6.53 crore during the year.

The authorities provided details of the hi-tech bus stands that will come up at Kuvempunagar, Yelwal, Sathagalli, Chamundi Hills and R.S. Naidu Nagar.

The cost of the project — “Inter Model Transit Centre (IMTC) —is Rs. 108 crore. It will be taken up under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.

The IMTC at Kuvempuanagar will cost Rs. 18.5 crore, the one at Sathagalli Rs. 35.1 crore.

The IMTC at R.S. Naidu Nagar will be completed at a cost of Rs. 5.9 crore, and the one at Chamundi Hills at a cost of Rs. 3.75 crore. The city bus stand will be developed at a cost of Rs. 16 crore. The Suburban Bus Stand will be allocated Rs. 23.63 crore for development and modernisation.

The proposed Intelligent Transport System that entails incorporating Geographical Positioning System (GPS) for the KSRTC fleet, will cost around Rs. 19.13 crore.
