Mathura: Security has been beefed up in Vrindaban, the land of Radha and Krishna, for the annual Hindola Utsav beginning on Monday. Golden Hindola (a swing made of gold) of the renowned Bankey Behari temple in Vrindaban would be the centre of attraction for devotees as it is displayed only once a year. Expecting a heavy rush during the 12-day festival, heavy security arrangements have been made by the police. CCTV cameras would be installed at Bankey Behari temple and adjoining areas and police in plain clothes would be deployed at sensitive points, Mathura SSP S.B. Shiradkar said. Hindola Utsav (spring festival) is an important festival of temples of Vrindavan, Mathura, Goverdhan, Barsana, Nandgaon and Gokul. While in few temples it starts on the first day of Sravan month, in others the festival begins on the day of Hariyali Teej that falls on August 4 this year. During the Hindola Utsav, in few temples statues of Radha and Krishna are seated on swings with decorations of gold and silver. In others, Hindolas made of flowers, leaves, dry fruits, costly stones, Indian and foreign currency are used. --PTI
