HYDERABAD: Senior BJP leader M. Venkaiah Naidu has urged the Centre to declare a war against terrorism and destroy terror infrastructure in the country, besides taking up the issue “frankly” with Pakistan. At a press conference here on Sunday, he described Pakistan as the “epicentre” of terrorism and said that its “evil designs” should be exposed by mobilising international opinion. Asked if the country should continue the dialogue with Pakistan, he said that it should think of the next step if the neighbour failed to stop terrorism. Accusing the Centre of not taking the menace of terrorism seriously , Mr. Naidu stated that more than 1,000 people were killed in terror acts in the country. Over 100 major incidents had occurred since the UPA came to power. The BJP leader charged the Centre with failing to take any steps to curb terrorism although the States were seeking special powers to deal with it. He called for a multi-pronged strategy to combat terrorism. Referring to inflation touching 12 per cent, he alleged that the UPA Government was not taking any measures to control price rise. This was causing severe hardship to the poor and salaried class. Similarly, the Government had not initiated any steps to tackle the agrarian crisis. He and faulted it for banning cotton exports. On the revocation of land to Sri Amarnath Shrine Board, he said the party would hold country-wide protests and a “jail bharo” campaign on August 11, 12 and 13.
