Chairman for Coastal Karnataka Development Authority to be appointed in 15 days Government committed to industrialisation of State: Yeddyurappa
plans: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa addressing a press conference at Kollur in Udupi district on Sunday. With him are Home Minister V.S. Acharya, BJP State unit president D.V. Sadananda Gowda and Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Shobha Karandlaje. Kollur (Udupi District): Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa said on Sunday that the chairman of the newly announced Coastal Karnataka Development Authority (Karavali Karnataka Abhivridhi Pradhikara) would be appointed in 15 days. Addressing presspersons here, Mr. Yeddyurappa said that after the chairman’s appointment, the authority would be asked to submit a report on the development of the three coastal districts within six months. In order to make full use of the west-flowing rivers in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts, vented dams would be built. Though this region received heavy rainfall, there was the problem of water shortage in urban and rural areas, which would be solved by building such dams. A sum of Rs. 1 crore had been allocated in the State Budget for a survey of the project. Following the Bangalore bomb blasts, the Government had allocated Rs. 25 crore to strengthen the intelligence network and upgrade police infrastructure. Mr. Yeddyurappa said the Government was committed to industrialisation of the State, which would solve the unemployment problem. The Government intended to give skill-based training to 10 lakh unemployed youth in five years. To facilitate the process of industrialisation, the Government planned to construct airstrips in all district headquarters in the next two years. To help farmers, the Government planned to deposit Rs. 1,000 in the accounts of 50 lakh small farmers. The decision to provide free power to irrigation pumpsets up to 10 hp would also help farmers. There were 17 lakh such IP sets in the State. The Government would, however, install meters at its own cost for such sets to stop power theft. Persons suffering from over 75 per cent of disability would be given a monthly allowance of Rs. 1,000. The proposals in the budget would benefit one crore people from the weaker sections of society. He had instructed the deputy commissioners and CEOs of zilla panchayats to distribute ration cards to 30 lakh genuine beneficiaries by the end of September. As photographs had been made compulsory, fake beneficiaries would be eliminated. The Chief Minister said he would visit three districts every month and review the implementation of welfare programmes. The deputy commissioners had been instructed to spend at least one day in a month in all taluk headquarters so that local problems get solved at that level and people did not have to come to Bangalore, Mr. Yeddyurappa said. Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister Shobha Karandlaje; Home Minister V.S. Acharya; Minister for Muzrai S.N. Krishnaiah Shetty; Medical Education Minister Ramchandra Gowda and president of the State unit of BJP D.V. Sadananda Gowda, were present. Earlier Mr. Yeddyurappa participated in the “Nava Chandika Yaga” at the Sri Mookambika Temple.
