Innovator of the Year Award 2007 presented

DEHRA DUN: A. Haji of the Agro Environmental Laboratory, Rudrapur was presented the Innovator of the Year Award 2007 of the Uttarakhand Council of Science and Technology (UCOST) by Minister for Science and Technology Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank at a special function here.

Mr Haji gets the recognition for developing a low-cost kerosene operated Insect Light Trap that has proved useful against the Yellow Stem Borer in paddy and some other pests like White Grub Kurmulla in fruit crops.

The Minister also gave away Young Scientist Awards to 33 others including D.P. Uniyal, K.P. Singh, C.S. Chanautiya and J.S. Rautela.

Describing the young scientists as activists charged with the duty of connecting science to the people, Mr Nishank wanted them to devise ways to reduce drudgery of the poor in the hill State.

Praising the Director Rajendra Dobhal for making science promotion activities visible within a short span of a few years the Minister hoped UCOST would take up the task of disseminating scientific knowledge amongst the common man in a bigger way.
