The alleged culprits in Kalkaji murder case -- Afroz (centre) M. Sajid (left) and Kafil – arrested in New Delhi on Sunday.

NEW DELHI: Afroz, 37, wanted in connection with the sensational contract killing of Kalkaji businessman Arun Gupta has been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police along with his two accomplices.

A small-time scrap dealer from Okhla, Afroz carried a cash reward of Rs.50,000 on his head and is allegedly involved in several criminal cases, mostly in the Gokulpuri area.

The police said Arun Gupta’s brother-in-law Dinesh Mittal had allegedly offered Rs.10 lakh to Afroz and his accomplice Mohammed Pervez in January to kill Mr. Gupta and his wife over some property dispute.

A few days later, Dinesh’s employee Haroon arranged a meeting between the three and Rs.5 lakh was paid in advance.

Pervez and Afroz later changed their plan and hired Ible Hassan for an advance payment of Rs.2 lakh for the job. Ible was, however, arrested in another case. Pervez then allegedly hired his brother-in-law Junaid, who along with Shakeel and Abu Zar, shot dead Mr. Gupta on April 7.

Mr. Mittal, Haroon and two of the contract killers were arrested a week later, but Afroz evaded arrest.

On Saturday, the Special Cell team led by Assistant Commissioner of Police Sanjeev Yadav arrested Afroz and his two accomplices Kafil Ahmad and Mohammed Sajid following a brief exchange of fire at Gokulpuri flyover on the Wazirabad Road.

A 7.65 bore pistol of foreign make and five live cartridges have allegedly been seized from Afroz’s possession. Besides, two country-made pistols and seven live cartridges were seized from his accomplices, the police said.
