SHATTERED: Grieving relatives of the Naina Devi temple stampede victims, outside the Anandpur Sahib Civil Hospital on Sunday. NEW DELHI: Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari has expressed shock and grief over the stampede at the Naina Devi Temple in Bilaspur district of Himachal Pradesh in which over 100 people were killed and many injured. In a message, Mr. Ansari conveyed his deepest condolences to the families of those killed and injured in the incident. Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee also expressed deep sorrow at the loss of lives in the stampede. He also expressed grief at the loss of lives of agricultural workers in a road accident in Lakhisarai district of Bihar and a blast in Kolkata. Rajnath expresses griefThe Bharatiya Janata Party president Rajnath Singh has also expressed grief over the loss of life in the accident. Mr. Singh said he had spoken to the Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and got the first hand information about the incident. “I am saddened to learn about the tragic death of over 100 people and express my condolences to the bereaved families,” he said. The State government has already announced a compensation of Rs.1lakh each to the next of kin of those dead and Rs 50,000 to each of the injured, he said.
