KATHMANDU: The major parties have been holding discussions whether or not to accept the Common Minimum Programme presented by the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoists). The Maoists on Saturday presented the 50-point CMP to all the parties of the Constituent Assembly. On Sunday, the Nepali Congress met the UML and the Madhesi Janadhikar Forum to discuss it. Minister for Peace and Reconstruction and Congress leader Ram Chandra Paudel told reporters that the N.C., UML, MJF and the Maoists could meet and address the agenda. Chairman of the MJF Upendra Yadav said the meeting could come up with ideas to forge consensus to form a national government. The CMP includes state restructuring, immediate relief package to conflict-affected and poor people, integration of Maoist combatants and the management of arms within three months. After being invited by President Ram Baran Yadav to form a national government, the Maoists have intensified their discussions with other parties. According to the time provided by the President, they have two days left to form government. On Friday, the Maoists’ central committee meeting came up with three alternatives to form either a national consensus government or a majority or a minority government. The Maoists’ is the single largest party of the Constituent Assembly.
