‘Harassment by auto drivers will be checked’

I find autorickshaw drivers at City College charging exorbitantly high fare and harassing passengers. There seem to be a few goons in the group who are not allowing passengers to hire any other passing autorickshaw.

I have asked my officers to take strict action against harassment by autorickshaw drivers. You may ring up 1073 or 27852482 whenever you face such a situation in future.

It is often found that vehicles like buses, trucks, autorickshaws, and pushcarts are parked at the crossroads -- on the left and right hand side of the corners.

Parking at the intersections is a big nuisance. We are tackling wrong parking habits seriously. Some NGOs and business establishments are joining us on the Violation Free Day. We are trying our best to educate the public.

I have been issued with three challans by post for traffic rule violations. There is no evidence such as a camera picture. I suspect these are issued at random to meet departmental targets.

It will be a very costly proposition to print and send photos for every traffic violation. Fines are meant to tackle violations, so that life on roads is safer for the citizens. There are no departmental targets. The only target is to target the law breaker, so that we may not have to book people at all, in due course. You are always free to send your specific representation against a challan. This provision has been indicated in the notice sent .

What happened to the proposal to earmark left side of the road for buses? If there are no such plans, will you consider it now?

We have prepared pamphlets and also issued notification for slow moving vehicles to use the left lane. Because of different types of buses and uneven width of the road, we could not notify an earmarked lane for buses.

Can heavy vehicles and three-wheelers carrying goods be prohibited on flyovers? Let citizens be encouraged to notify on telephone vehicles about vehicles causing heavy pollution.

The height of divider on main roads at Masab Tank and Banjara Hills is four to five inches only. As a result, many vehicles are criss-crossing leading to accidents.

We have taken up the matter of raising the divider height with the GHMC. A lot of work has been completed already. In the meantime, the numbers of vehicles crossing the median are being written down and the vehicles are being booked.
